Abstract. The issue of the changes of the levels of pro−inflammatory cytokines in patients with unstable angina and type 2 diabetes mellitus is disputable. This study evaluated the character of changes of pro−inflammatory cytokines by determining tumor necrosis factor−α and interleukin−6 in these patients depending on the functional class of chronic heart failure and analyzed the association of anti−inflammatory cytokines and carbohydrate metabolism parameters. The study involved 104 patients with unstable angina divided into groups depending of the presence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It was determined that the increase in manifestations of cardiac decompensation in patients with unstable angina and type 2 diabetes mellitus was associated with high activity of pro−inflammatory cytokine level and increase of insulin resistance, which achieved its maximum in patients with accompanying type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Key words: unstable angina, type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic heart failure, pro−inflammatory cytokines.
